The annual search for the UK’s top bus driver starts this week with the invitation for operators to participate in the National Final of the annual Bus Driver of the Year (BDoY) competition.

The National Final of the annual Bus Driver of the Year (BDoY) competition will be a fortnight later in 2025, avoiding a clash with the switch-on of Blackpool’s illuminations.

The 56th Bus Driver of the Year National Final held in Blackpool yesterday (Sunday 1 September) was won at the third attempt by Thomas Gilhooley of Lothian East Coast Buses.

The 55th Bus Driver of the Year National Final held in Blackpool yesterday (Sunday 3 September) was won by a National Express Bus driver at his second attempt. Crowned UK Bus Driver of the Year 2023, Lee Grantham won the BDoY Trophy and £4,100 prize money. Aged 35, he has been a driver based at Acocks Green depot for over 16 years and is allocated to Solihull routes.

Lothian Buses and its subsidiaries used the company’s annual competition to select its drivers for this year’s Bus Driver of the Year (BDoY) National Final.

On a recent visit to his home in East Sussex BDoY Chairman Joe Mackie presented long-serving stalwart Bryan Constable with a souvenir to mark his 35 years of service as a Director of BDoY.
